I had a blast last night as Mike and Amber, Kate and Karsten, my sister Kitty and her boyfriend Money, and myself all went to Zanies to see the metal themed comedy of Brian Posehn. (He did a lot of the same material you can hear in his Coachella performance).

After the show Karsten asked me about the band Megadeth. Coincidentally, I had just recently used a part of a Christmas gift certificate to get a new copy of their classic Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?, another one of those albums I wore out on cassette back in the day, and I’ve had something bubbling in the back of my brain about it. I was struck by how fresh and relevant the title track still is — perhaps it even makes a better statement now — seeing as a public overwhelmingly ready for peace hasn’t bought from the few selling, and seems to get a “choice” between Democrats who vote for aggressive imperial war and Republicans who seem to masturbate to it — than it did in its original Cold War context.

“So if there’s a new way, I’ll be the first in line. But it better work this time.”
