Knee Plays

Philip Glass in parallel convergence on “Knee 5″:
Anyway, just to update everyone: so last Friday I went in for an MRI on the knee, and reviewed it with the doc on Wednesday, who tells me it’s a torn meniscus which required surgery. So we did that yesterday.
He had hoped from what he saw in the MRI that he could suture the tear and let it heal without losing any of the tissue, but when he got in there he found it in much worse shape than he thought, so he had to revert to just removing the torn tissue. Which, while less preferable in the long run to saving the tissue, is actually much quicker to recover from (since saving the tissue requires immobilizing the knee and letting it heal for several weeks).
So I can already walk on it, though I’m using crutches for longer distances for a few days just to keep the stress off of it. And there’s not really much pain to speak of — a little soreness form the intrusion of the surgery itself, some pings if I move the knee too far in any direction, or twist it funny, etc, but that’s about it. In fact I felt surprisingly good — until about 8:00 last night when the nausea from the anesthesia finally kicked in — that wasn’t much fun. But 14 hours of sleep later and I’m feeling more stable this morning.
I should probably save for a separate post any discussion of the really painful part of all this — the bill.

I am part of the club that tore her meniscus and had to have surgery. I was walking around the house too by the evening but I had to use crutches for a couple of days.
The surgeon told me it had torn and folded over.
I know your pain.
