Dear Barack,

I know I can call you Barack, since that’s how you signed all those emails asking me for money. Anyway, listen — you do remember why you got the Democratic nomination over Senator Clinton, right?
It was, as they say, war and foreign relations, stupid.
So please, please, please don’t let this be true.
Now I’m not saying Clinton shouldn’t have a place in your cabinet if that’s what you both want. Give her Education, Interior, anything else, but not Secretary of State. Not for someone who aided and abetted the war party for the last eight years.
This would be an enormous slap in the face to everyone who supported you. Especially since the right choice is obvious.
Thanks,
Jon
PS: I don’t really know if this is a good idea necessarily, I’m just throwing it out there, but has anyone considered T. Boone Pickens for Secretary of Energy?

Agreed … fully! I am still not wowed by the election (though I freely admit it was a lesser evil, more clearly than in almost any previous election in my lifetime), but I am resigned to its outcome. Yet the allegedly smart and committed-to-the-people Obama has so far (1) chosen that Chicago weasel Rahm E. as his chief advisor; (2) talked about the likes of Albright and other neocon Dems in his cabinet; and now (3) presented Hillary as potential for Sec of State … NO NO NO NO NO NO NO … NO!!
Anyone but Bill Richardson (or Kucinich?) at this point would be pandering to the war partyites; Hillary as SoS would be the first true sign that he really won’t do as he said he would, for way too many reasons …

I’m maybe not quite so pessimistic, though that’s perhaps because I never expected libertopia from him, and would consider just the act of scaling us back to where we were 8 years ago still a victory. But it certainly would throw doubt on whether we can expect anything better than the way it was under Clinton.
